AVR Studio 5 – Installation walkthrough

Hello Programmers,

In this blog, we will provide a step by step walkthrough installation of ATMEL’s latest AVR Studio 5.1 installation onto a Windows 7 system. AVR Studio 5.1 is the latest stable release update available to public in Feb, 2012.

Let’s go into details!

This demo system we have here is a virtual machine running Windows 7 (64-bit), fresh O.S. installation with SP1 and patched with all Windows Updates. AVR Studio 5 requires the following items to be installed on the computer system.

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Full Profile
  • Microsoft Visual Studio Isolated Shell 10.0
  • AVR Jungo USB Driver

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0

.NET is an integral part of many applications running on Windows and provides common functionality for those applications to run.

Our test system Windows 7 Ultimate edition has only “Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile” pre-installed. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Full Profile is needed for AVR Studio, download and install .NET Framework 4.0 from Microsoft here.

For those you may have .NET installed previously, you can confirm your install by checking Windows registry. Microsoft support provides a document (How to determine which versions and service pack levels of the Microsoft .NET Framework are installed) on how to verify your .Net installation.
